Scholars are undergraduate students at the University of Minnesota. We accept students from all colleges and majors. You can join at any point in your undergrad career. You do not already need to be involved with a community organization to join the program.

Steps to Enroll

Getting started with CESP is a simple two-step process designed to help you explore the program and prepare for a meaningful scholar experience. First, you’ll complete a short, self-paced CESP Information Session via Canvas to learn more about the program and decide whether it fits your academic goals. Next, you’ll register for and attend a Workshop for New Scholars, where you’ll connect with other new scholars and build foundational skills in community engagement and reflection. Both steps are required to enroll in CESP and can be completed on your own timeline.

Each step must be completed consecutively, as the information session is a prerequisite for registering for a workshop. Completing both steps prepares you to officially join CESP and begin your scholar journey. New scholars are accepted on a rolling basis, and students are never denied from the Community Engagement Scholars Program. Step 1

Complete the CESP Information Session

The first step in your scholar journey is to complete the CESP information session. The info session is a great way to learn more and figure out if CESP is a good fit for you and will fit into your academic career plan. It is also a prerequisite to registering for a Workshop for New Scholars. We have designed a short self paced online training module through Canvas that you can complete on your own time. The CESP information session takes 30 minutes or less to complete.

Step 2

Register and Attend a Workshop for New Scholars

The Workshop for New Scholars is the next step to enrolling in the program. In order to sign up for a Workshop for New Scholars you will have to have previously attended a CESP info session (Step 1). During this Workshop you will meet other students new to the program and talk about a variety of community engagement topics and reflection tools. To register click on a date below. New dates are regularly added, the Workshop for New Scholars is hosted throughout the academic year.
